CBT Counselling

Picture
CBT Counselling suggests that if you want to feel better, then you must look at your thoughts. The core principal of CBT counselling is that thoughts and feelings are connected and that feeling better involves changing your thinking. CBT counseling will help you identify your negative thinking, find more realistic thoughts, and thereby create more positive moods.

CBT Counselling: Notice the Thoughts behind Strong Feelings

The first step of CBT Counselling is learning to identifying moods and the thoughts behind those moods.  CBT Counselling asks people to notice the thoughts that go through their mind when having a strong emotional reaction to an event or to another person. CBT Counselling asks questions like "What was going through my mind just before start to feel this way?" and “What does this mean about me, my life, and my future?"

CBT Counselling: Develop More Realistic Thoughts

The next step of CBT Counselling is to view thoughts as hypothesis or guesses and to test these hypothesis with evidence. CBT Counselling asks an individual to gather evidence that supports, and does not support, emotional thoughts, then to use this evidence to develop more realistic thinking. CBT Counselling often uses a Thought Record as a tool in this process. These realistic thoughts consequently influence a more positive mood.
